With tours cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown, it’s difficult to know how to support our favourite musical artists. Amy has come up with 6 ways we can show our love to our faves, and help them in this trying time.
Buy their merch
Show love by having their official merchandise. Browse their official online store, website, and social media channels for all their merch and if you like something, buy it!
Attend their virtual shows
Artists have been going onto their social media, welcoming fans to their bedrooms and living rooms, and turning them into a gig-like place. Just like us, they too are isolating and working from home, creating music and entertaining fans. You can livestream virtual concerts and DJ sets or watch recorded content that has come out during the lockdown. Put your faves’ social media accounts on notification so you can keep up to date with their latest news.
Keep sharing their content
The act of sharing your favourite track through a post or tweet could help spread the word out for up and coming artists. The more streams they get, the more they can keep doing what they love! Don’t forget to also like and comment, as these interactions all contribute towards their algorithm, which in turn determines who their content is shown to and how often. *We* know our faves are there, but unless we share, nobody else will.
Pre-order their new album/EP/single
While streaming your faves’ music helps them in terms of chart position, they make more money when you buy it. Whether you buy a physical format or a download, it’s sure way of ensuring more of your purchase price goes to the act. A good rule of thumb is to buy a physical copy or download for your music library, and then stream it online – that way you cover all bases.
Keep buying tickets to gigs
This is the most direct way to show your support to both acts and venues. Buying tickets in advance will secure you that gig. We can’t think of a better way to display your support and optimism than buying tickets to upcoming gigs right now. Even if the show is cancelled, you’ll get a refund or it will be rescheduled.
Subscribe to and follow your faves on social media
Know a band or solo artist on the cusp of breaking through? Subscribe to their YouTube channel. Subscribing will build up the act’s following and allow them to reach a wider audience, which ultimately equals more fans and more sales.
You should also find out and follow their social media accounts and engage with them through their lives, stories, and posts.
