Lewis Capaldi has released the compelling new video for his latest single, ‘Before You Go’. Directed by Kyle Thrash, the clip portrays the moments of joy remembered by a group of friends, as they pay tribute to the life of a vibrant young woman – played by Sasha Lane, best known for her roles in ‘Honey’, and ‘Hellboy’ – whose suicide shocked them all.
‘Before You Go’ is one of three new songs on Capaldi’s latest album, ‘Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent Extended Edition’ and has topped both UK and Irish singles charts, marking Capaldi’s second number 1 release in the UK, and third in Ireland. We featured John Grimes’ cover of the song earlier this week, and you can watch three versions of his cover here:
The song takes its inspiration from Lewis’ aunt, whose suicide when he was a young boy affected him deeply. Billboard took a dive into the lyrics in this piece, remarking that,
“The melancholic ballad details the agony-inducing aftermath of a loved one dying by suicide.”
“it’s a rousing piece of acoustic songwriting with a driving driving vocal – trademark Capaldi, in other words.”
So far, ‘Before You Go’ has surpassed 245 million global streams, and is still climbing the charts on US Top 40, and Hot AC radio.
“‘Before You Go’ is the both the most honest and personal song I’ve ever written,” says Capaldi. “It’s about loss, regrets and the fear that we sometimes never understand what someone is going through despite our best want to be everything that person needs. x”
