Kēvens – ‘World Is Burning’

Kēvens is a Miami-based singer, songwriter, DJ and MC who lives by the adage, “Positivity is a necessity” – and the proof of this way of life lies in the track record of his life.

Starting out as part of Miami’s Le Coup, which was founded by Richard and Anthony Booker, half brothers of Bob Marley, Kēvens then went solo, with his blend of rock, trip-hop, drum and bass, and EDM, whereupon he released his first album, ‘We Are One’, and firmly establishing himself as a fixture in Miami’s music scene. Miami wasn’t enough for him – he then got into the festival scene, appearing at events worldwide such as South Korea’s Ultra Music Festival, the White Nights Festival in Russia, and the One Love Fest, in Takamatsu, Japan.

Kēvens has provided guest vocals on songs by Richard Booker, and Rabbit In The Moon, among others, and shared the stage with the likes of The Jacksons, Major Lazer, Carlos Santana, Stephen and Damian Marley, Steven Tyler, ICE CUBE, Steel Pulse, and Armin Van Buuren….the list goes on forever.

‘World Is Burning’ sees Kēvens taking it to the studio to record and re-record, but never to his satisfaction. Then, while on a trip to Hawaii, his plane was alerted to volcanic eruptions on the island, just as they were landing. Kēvens visited the freshly re-opened crater, standing on a piece of ground that the very next day fell into the volcano, with no warning. In that moment, with the inspiration of  Mother Nature’s incredible power, he was able to finish ‘World Is Burning’ within a matter of days. It’s a Drum and Bass masterpiece, with Kēvens vocals plaintive but passionate; sung and spoken – a party jam which nevertheless spreads an incredible message.

The music video is every bit as passionate as the song itself, featuring footage from the erupting volcano, combined with images of the destruction and large-scale environmental devastation we’re forcing on the world. People pose in gasmasks, or stand huddled in abandoned buildings, and wear blindfolds made from dollar bills. No matter who we are or where we’re from; no matter our socio-economic status – we’re all in this together. We are doomed, or we can unite and fight this together.
