Seattle’s MariBased1 is back with his latest hard and fast paced single, ‘Bouncin”. Bolstered by a music video which includes breathtakingly beautiful aerial shots of his neighbourhood by director Ife Adeniji, aka the Video Dope Dealer, it’s in stark contrast to the clip for his previous release, ‘DOE BOI‘, which took us to the grimy backstreets of the town’s rougher neighbourhoods.
MariBased1 aims to broaden the perspectives of outsiders with his music. He presents to his listeners a multi-faceted Seattle, of dealers, customers, party kids, and serious grownups; rich, poor, hustlers and thieves. Beautiful, ugly – all living cheek by jowel, with no contradictions. In short Seattle is a town for all walks of life, and MariBased1 shows us this.
In ‘Bouncin”, we see MariBased1’s Seattle pride. He wears two jerseys – one for football team Seattle Seahawks Marshawn Lynch, and the other for Gary Payton, legendary point guard of former Seattle basketball team, the Sonics. We see inside his house, and he then takes us up onto the roof for a barbecue, where we overlook the streets. There’s also glorious shots of the far side of Elliott Bay, on the Puget Sound, where MariBased1 and his friends park the car, and have a bit of a party. In the end, we’re left in no doubt that Seattle isn’t such a bad place to live.
