Mother Yeti are as elusive as the Himalayan Cryptid for whom they are named. First spotted in the Pacific Northwest circa 2012, their numbers have varied between two to as many as five members over the years. Their latest single, ‘My Best Please’, has a sound as hard to pin down as the band themselves, and ranges between punk, psych rock, and RnB. One thing we know for sure however – we love it.
Seattle’s MariBased1 is back with his latest hard and fast paced single, ‘Bouncin”. Bolstered by a music video which includes breathtakingly beautiful aerial shots of his neighbourhood by director Ife Adeniji, aka the Video Dope Dealer, it’s in stark contrast to the clip for his previous release, ‘DOE BOI’, which took us to the grimy backstreets of the town’s rougher neighbourhoods.
Because of its geographic location at the very far west of the US, and its relative isolation, Seattle has developed a rap subculture like no other: there’s a distinct sound which marks it as different to any other in the country. Emerald City has produced the likes of Sir Mix-A-Lot, Macklemore, and DoNormaal, and their style is notable for its idiosyncratic storytelling, humour, and big personalities – as well as an unswerving commitment to honesty, MariBased1 is in this respect, a man of his city, and along with his label mate Mr Benjamin, is a proud exponent of Seattle hip hop. Their new track, ‘Doe Boi’, comes with a music video which shows a side of Seattle that tourists are unlikely to ever see.
