Yesterday, Claire Richards launched her debut solo album, ‘My Wildest Dreams’, set for release on 1 February. Richards knows a thing or two about baking, so naturally, she chose to launch her album at The Big London Bake, in Tooting, South West London.
When we received the invitation to join Claire in launching her album, our first thoughts were ones of incredulity, soon overtaken by joy. This sounded like a fun event – and really shouldn’t have worked – but it did. In two sessions, groups of music journalists from around the UK threw off their inhibitions and replaced them with aprons, in order to bake Genoise, an Italian sponge cake, named after the city of Genoa. Joining us was Claire Richards herself, making her way around to every baking station – think The Great British Bake Off – all the while playing songs from her new album over the speakers in the marquee.
EP attended the second session, and threw ourselves into the event. We spoke to Claire about her album, her family, and her baking, and discovered she’s very good at making cakes indeed. In fact, she helped us (a little bit) with our cake, gorgeously rose water flavoured with blueberry jam, which was awarded third place:
The highlight of course though, was listening to Claire sing from her new album. Standing in the corner of the room, accompanied by her guitarist and keyboard player, Claire sang 4 tracks, including ‘These Wings’, latest single, ‘End Before We Start’, and the title track, ‘My Wildest Dreams’. It was such an incredible occasion to hear her perform live in such a select group; our only concern was why it’s taken her so long to release a solo album!
Claire’s album launch took place at The Big London Bake, 38 Tooting High Street, South West London. ‘My Wildest Dreams’ is set for release on 1 February 2019, through Sony Music Entertainment, and can be pre-ordered now on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, and Deezer. You can find out more about it via Claire’s official website, as well as her Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts.
