Jimmy D. Scott – ‘Shakey Ground’

Jimmy D Scott certainly loves Detroit so much so that locals say that’s what the D stands for in his name. But it goes both ways, and Detroit loves Jimmy as well.

The video for his latest song, ‘Shakey Ground’, sees Jimmy feel the love from everyone in town, from all walks of life. The clip opens up with a radio station dance off competition to find Jimmy D’s biggest fan. Everyone loves Jimmy. The janitor at the radio station, people watching the competition on TV, even a visiting goddess from somewhere in South America feels the big love for Jimmy. It’s a fun clip for a great song.

Born in Mississippi, Jimmy’s adopted home town has thrust its roots deep down into his music: it’s funky and soulful, and oozing with gospel and vintage R&B that the Motor City is known for.

‘Shakey Ground’ is Jimmy D’s interpretation of the same song by The Temptations, themselves from Detroit, who took it to the top of the Hot Soul Singles Chart in 1975. It’s also been covered by Phoebe Snow, Etta James, Fishbone, Delbert McClinton, and many many more. It’s a great song with plenty of room for even more versions.
