Courtney Act On Her Tour ‘Under The Covers’, Her Evolution, And More

Australian drag queen, pop singer, and entertainer Courtney Act, is set to be back in the UK with her tour ‘Under The Covers’. A 75-minute, fully seated performance of music, style, and a stunning personality.

In a quick chat with us, she talks on such subjects as tasty lunches to more about her tour, and much more.

Who or what inspires your music? How has that evolved?

Probably just pop culture and life and living. Seeing things on the Internet. Just the different experiences that I get to have. ’Under The Covers’ explores my own journey, sexuality and gender. As I evolve, my show themes evolve as well.

So what can we expect from ‘Under The Covers’?

It’s a lot of fun. A lot of pretty costumes, wigs and great songs and lots of glamour. It’s basically a 75-minute cabaret. It’s myself and a piano player, singing covers of famous cover songs. For example, the Bjork song, ‘It’s Oh So Quiet’ is actually a cover of a 1951 cover by Betty Hutton, which is a cover of a 1948 German song “Und jetzt ist es still”, which is German for “oh so quiet”. It’s sort of creating a parallel between drag and covering a song, because, with music, you take their lyrics, words and sometimes their pronouns and you sort of trying to live your experience on stage- with their lyrics and words- but telling your own stories. With drag, sometimes the only way to reveal yourself is to first encase with foam hips, latex tips and lots of glue and adhesive – and tell the story that way.

How would you say you – or Courtney Act – have evolved?

Well, it’s all the same thing. One can’t evolve without the other.

If you could chat with/interview anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

I’d love to have a big, lengthy, in-depth conversation with Russell Brand. I find his brain really fascinating, I don’t know if I’ll be able to keep up with his brain, but he’s a very interesting person.

What’s one question you’ve never been asked in an interview, you wished you were asked?

“What did you have for lunch today?”. I could tell you what I had for lunch today. It was pretty yummy. I’m vegan, so it was like pot pie kind of thing with this puff pastry, lots of vegetables. It was really delicious and creamy. It was really good!
