J U S T P R O C E S S is the one-man brainchild of Ben Runyan. It’s not his first rodeo either, with his previous project, the 2-piece pop group City Rain seeing critical acclaim for their single, ‘The Optimist’, which won MTVUs Freshman contest and the video on regular rotation in 2014, as well as featured on MTV ‘Catfish’, and other shows on the Esquire TV, Showtime, and G4TV channels. City Rain was also nominated for ASCAPs Sammy Cahn award for best lyrics, along with a string of commercial and short film deals.
With all this under his belt Runyan created J U S T P R O C E S S as his new alias, and through which he aims to develop artists by way of slick electronic pop.
‘I Already Know’ features Joannie Jiminez and is an entrancing electronic symphony. The song is built from laters of percussion and keyboard elements, and opens with Jiminez teasing the hook, which she repeats over and over. We’re taken into the first verse where the music rises, breaking through with a thumping beat through the first verse, while verse two sees Joannie delivering the lyrics over a lush breakdown in sound.
The video for ‘I Already Know’ is shot in black and white and directed by Stephen Rutherford. We’re reminded of the film-noir style of the 1940s: all chiaroscuro contrasts of lights and darks. Joannie herself is elegant and ethereal, with innumerable costume changes and attitudes. It’s brazen and trippy and altogether wonderfully catchy.
