The son of a guitarist who played in their local church, Tricky G Washington grew up playing any and every instrument he could, starting with his father’s guitar, at the age of 4. He started studying music theory at 5, and from there moved onto a variety of acoustic instruments, as well as percussion instruments and alto sax. He began playing bass at the age of 17, and honed this skill through playing concerts at local churches. After his father became a local pastor, Tricky G gained access to the church’s drum kit, and after mastering this he moved onto keyboards, and finally started writing songs and singing with the church choir, at the age of 25.

Tricky G writes his own beats by way of his Yamaha DX7 synthesister, mixing them on his PC, along with his electric bass. His songs reflect the lifestyle of the popular tourist destination of his birth, and his music is a glorious blend of classic jazz and contemporary soul and R&B, with the tiniest bit of rap as well. ‘Bahamas Sunsation’ uses layers of instrumentation and vocal pitch, creating a textured sound with insightful and humorous lyrics. Tricky Gs vocals range from alto to soprano on the singing parts of the single, while the rap drops to bass and tenor. It’s this vocal diversity that has earned him the nickname of “Tricky” from his friends.
