deadmau5 Announces His #R1RESIDENCY

Following the successful release of his sixth studio album, ‘W:/2016ALBUM’ (pronounced as ‘w drive 2016 album’) last week, deadmau5 is set to spearhead a coveted BBC Radio 1 residency. Announced last night by Annie Mac, deadmau5 will kick off the Radio 1’s residency series on 5th January 2017, where he’ll be joined by fellow residents: Kölsch, Logan Sama and Eats Everything.

Set to add to his tremendous success, deadmau5’s R1 Residency will include a range of music from across the electronic spectrum. Previous residents include George Fitzgerald, Heidi, Oliver Heldens, Louisahhh and Steve Angello.

Joel Zimmerman, otherwise known as deadmau5 is one of the world’s most respected electronic music producers today. The Canadian platinum-selling producer has five critically acclaimed albums under his belt:  ‘> album title goes here <‘, ‘4×4=12’, ‘For Lack Of A Better Name’, ‘Random Album Title’ and ‘while (1<2)’, his latest serving ‘W:/2016ALBUM’ is set to follow suit. His first release as an independent artist via his own mau5trap imprint, ‘W:/2016ALBUM’ is a collection of compositions ranging from atmospheric to techno to old-school synths with NME calling it,

“a judicious side-step away from the plasticky insta-rush of EDM, it finds Zimmerman rebuilding his sound around the huge collection of classic and rare synths he’s lovingly assembled in his new studio.”

About the author

There’s a lot of music out there - good music. At Essentially Pop our remit is that we cover music that deserves to be heard, with a particular focus on independent artists. That doesn't mean we won't cover your old favourites - rather we hope to give you some new favourites as well.

We no longer accept unpaid PR agency work. We believe the creative arts have value, and this includes writing. As always, we will write about artists who contact us - or who we contact - for free - but we can no longer work free of charge for PR agencies. We work hard, we put in a lot of hours writing, and we ask that you respect that. Contact us for our very reasonable rates.
