Irish singer/songwriter Colette Kavanagh, from Calverston, Kilcullen, County Kildare, lists among her influences Ray Orbison, Julie London, The Carpenters, and Johnny Cash, and was inspired to start recording her songs after being invited in 2006 to perform as a guest singer on a ten day tour of Ireland, with Johnny Cash’s guitarist, Bob Wootton. She then recorded her debut album, ‘Further Down The Line’ that year, with her songs receiving airplay all around the world.
Colette is known for her live performances in Dublin’s Temple Bar, and Ballsbridge, as well as surrounding counties, and recorded her EP, ‘Someday’ in 2013. Her latest single, ‘Last Kiss’, is accompanied by a video filmed in and around the Blessington Lakes area of County Wicklow, best known as one of the locations for the TV series, ‘Vikings’. There are also shots in the ruins of an old church near Kilcullen, County Kildare. It’s a stunning, cinema quality video, with full panoramic panning, and gorgeous scenery. Throughout the video we’re compelled to wonder what she is searching for, and all is finally revealed in the last frame. We won’t give away the ending!
Colette’s warm and lush vocals are amply assisted by the piano of Newbridge’s Padraig Meredith, and Shane Lee on guitar. The pair help to convey the haunting feel on all of Colette’s songs. The video for ‘Last Kiss’ has been directed by Shane Serrano.
You can find Colette Kavanagh online on Twitter, Facebook, and Reverbnation. ‘Last Kiss’ is available to download from iTunes. Be sure to check out Colette’s official website for details of her next performances.
