Our Essential Cover this week comes from Roni, who covers ‘Hard Times’, by Steve Young, who himself has featured in our Essential Covers.
Devon singer/songwriter Roni Perry started singing at the age of three, then performed with a variety of bands during her teenage years, followed by the opportunity to sing across Europe, as well as in Mexico, which included the highlight of Edwin Starr performing with her on stage.
As much as she enjoyed her life on the road, Roni made the decision to pursue motherhood alone, and put her early ambitions on the backburner. She still performed locally, and continued to write music. Now armed with in excess of ninety songs, Roni has released a 5 track EP, ‘Nothing Less Than This’, with the lead track, ‘Baby Bird’ written about the man she calls her muse, a tale of unrequited love.
Roni’s influences start from Elvis Presley (whom she asserts taught her to sing), and a childhood musical diet of Tammy Wynette, Johnny Cash, and Dolly Parton. Through her teenage and adult years, Roni has been inspired by Bonnie Tyler and Stevie Nicks, both of whom have had a great impact on her own songwriting.
You can buy ‘Baby Bird’ and ‘Nothing Less Than This’ from Roni’s Official Website. Roni is on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Soundcloud.
