Described by Gigwise as ‘A Contemporary expression of killer 60’s harmonies and songwriting’ and ‘Catchy as Hell’, by The Independent, Liverpool band The Hummingbirds are no strangers to readers of Essentially P0p, as we’ve featured them several times. Now the quintet are set to release their latest single, ‘Emma’, on June 17, alongside a UK tour.
Smashing a sell out tour to date of the UK, including 2 nights at Bush Hall in London’s Shepherds Bush and The Liverpool Buyers Club, The Hummingbirds are on the road again heading towards the festival season with their sharp suits, killer harmonies and contemporary melodies. The last leg of the tour will coincide with the release of ‘Emma’, the final single from their current critically acclaimed album ‘Pieces Of You’.
The band are well on their way to breaking the airwaves, already adopted on the football terraces and continuing to amass fans across the UK, with their recent album profiled as a recommended indie release on the home page of iTunes, selling out within hours of going on sale in their home town of Liverpool’s HMV stores and making it’s debut at number 9 in the indie album charts.
These 23 year old independent, working class boys Jay Davies (lead vocals/guitar), Mic Kountis (guitar/backing vocals), Matty Brougham (rhythm guitar) Ryan Lewis (bass) and Richard Smith (drums / backing vocals) deserve their break. Unashamedly drawing comparisons to the greats, ‘Emma’ opens with a cheeky harmony of whistling, the canny Scouse wit evident in the melodic Americana rhythm. The single comes with a remix of their quintessentially retro track ‘Tonight’ originally featured on their debut EP and a firm favourite with their fans.
