We Catch Up With Ricky Rebel

Ricky Rebel April2

Remember we spoke to Ricky Rebel last year? Well he’s been really busy since then and so we thought it was high time we caught up with him and found out what he’s been up to.

EP:  You’re always so busy Ricky!  What have you been up to since we talked last?

Ricky: I’ve been focusing on promoting my new “Star (Remixes)” album released on Audio4Play Records and available on iTunes. The remix album features remixes by world-renowned DJs Hector Fonseca, Casey Alva and Tommy Love. I also recently walked for Tumbler and Tipsy at LA Fashion Week, joining other celebs like Kendall Jenner who have walked for Tumbler and Tipsy.

EP:  What has it been like working with Hector Fonseca?

Ricky: It’s been a blast! So far, DJs from around the world are playing the track and videotaping the crowd’s reaction. It’s so exciting to see the crowd go crazy to a song that I write from my heart. We all worked very hard to see this dream come to life and I’m thrilled to watch it happen.

EP:  How did that all come about?

Ricky:  I reached out to a friend of mine and showed him “Star” and he sent it over to Hector. Hector really liked the track and my voice. He asked me if I’d be interested in being on the label and I said “Hell yea!” Hector’s had 15 number-one hits with artists including Sia, Beyoncé and Katy Perry. Who wouldn’t want him on their team?

EP:  Casey Alva has just gone to number 1 on Billboard with one of his remixes!  What do you think the chances are that his remix for Star will follow the same trajectory?

Ricky:  We’re all working hard to promote the album. If it’s written in the stars, then it will happen. If not, I’ve got plenty of material to follow.

EP:  Talk us through Star.  What does it mean to you, how did you come to write it?

Ricky:  I wrote “Star” after someone asked me a simple question: “What do you want?” It came to me instantly. I didn’t have to think about it. I want to be Star. I’ve wanted this dream my whole life. Now that it’s finally happening, I couldn’t be more grateful. It really does take a strong team. I call my team the Rebel Mafia. I couldn’t do it without them. I made sure in the song to proclaim boldly that “I am a Star” because I believe that a positive affirmation put out into the universe becomes real when you share it to the world and enrol them in that possibility, and so far, it’s working.

EP:  What’s next for Ricky Rebel?

I’ve got a new mega video coming out soon to the “Star (Hector Fonseca and Tommy Love Tribal Dub). It’s going to be epic. I’m really getting back to my dancer roots. I’m also working on a Vegas show and several club dates planned on the west coast. Check out my website for more show information and everything Rebel. And a special message to my fans: always remember to “Rebel the Darkness, and Shine Your Light.” Love, Rebel

Thanks Ricky for speaking to us!
