In the second track from HighWay‘s upcoming sixth album, ‘Last Call For Rock’n’Roll’, set for release on the 24th of April this year, ‘¡BANG BANG!’ brings a playful vibe to their sound, and a 60s-inspired visual to boot.
HighWay’s early releases, such as their first EP, ‘Have A Beer!’, captured what they were like as teenagers, and while over the years since, they’ve rubbed off their raw edges, they’ve never lost their original motivation, nor have they tried to erase that history. Instead, they’ve ensured that each album since has built on what came before, while tightening the songwriting, strengthening the production, and sharpening their live show. This is reflected in ‘Last Call For Rock’n’Roll’, which, while lyrically more personal and direct, and shaped by real challenges and life experience, still retains the loud and unapologetic music fans know and love.
Second single, ‘¡BANG BANG!’, was written quickly near the end of the album sessions, and leans into humour and cynicism, without losing any of its edge. The sleazy riff and heavy groove carry lyrics that wrestle with two opposing paths. As Ben Chambert explains, “Lyrically, the song explores the inner conflict between chasing a superficial, fantasy-filled life or choosing a simpler path shaped by fear and moral consequences”. The accompanying music video continues the theme, with its exaggerated characters and 60s-inspired visual style.
