A-Wax 1 Million’s style can be summed up by one line in his latest single, ‘Flavor’: “This right here cannot be cloned”. Swaggering with earned confidence, and a voice in a million, he brings into everything his hometown – the Hilltop neighborhood of Tacoma, WA – and his artistry. The two are deeply intertwined, each shaping the other.
Following incarceration, which pulled A-Wax 1 Million away from everything he once knew, he took on some serious reflection about his lifestyle and environment. Now back on the outside, he’s “all business”, seeing straight through the game, and spotting the broken promises, flaky fiends, and slithering snakes that lurk around every corner. He’s not afraid to call out the “suckers” who “talk a good game” with nothing to back up their loyalty.
The hypnotic trap beat brings a menacing pace to ‘Flavor’, perfectly capturing the pure grit of Tacoma’s rough-and-tumble streets, and the music video sees him bring those graffiti-covered back alleys and parking lots to life. Delivering his bars, the air of aggression feels anything but performative, mirroring the real volatility of his past life. But those days are behind him, there’s no longer any room for distractions in his new way of life, including those who refuse to “get with it.” In his mind, there are only two options: commit or be left behind.
