With ‘If I sin for you?’ Celeste Marie Wilson demonstrates a layered perspective on the pressure put on women in Southern church culture to steer clear of sin. She tells it by way of a tale of “toxic” lovers; the narrator is transfixed by her lover, but knows he’s someone she’s not supposed to have. She’s like a moth to a flame however, and can’t resist the temptation. With the song’s high drama increasing, we’re made to feel that we want this couple to stay together, until we discover that perhaps freedom and sin are more intertwined than we think.

Celeste’s vocal prowess is backed by rock-n-roll guitars and a head-nodding beat, as she effortlessly belts it out, while when necessary skillfully softening her voice to deliver the lines that need it.
