Re-imagined Singer Songwriter Jay Sprouse Re-Imagines His Style With Latest Infectious Pop Anthem, ‘We Were Living’

Following a lengthy time away from music, singer-songwriter Jay Sprouse returns with his new single, the catchy pop anthem, ‘We Were Living’.

‘We Were Living’ is out now and is available to stream and download here.

Multi-faceted artist Jay Sprouse returned earlier this year from a 15 year musical hiatus, releasing a successful series of remixes. Now, dropped on October 28, ‘We Were Living’ is a 2010s pop style EDM track, laid back with infectious melodies, as well as layered and overlapping synths and keys, aligned with ethereal, echo-ey vocals.

‘We Were Living’ was originally meant to be a dance remix for Sprouse’s popular alt/rock song, ‘Innocent Harmony (Take Me Away)’, but following a collaboration with producer Denny White, the song took on a life of its own, and before he knew it, Sprouse had written new lyrics and melodies, transforming it into an entirely different song, blending genres and opening him up to a entirely new music style. It’s an exciting development for Jay, and, while still reflecting his commitment to making wonderful music that fans can relate to, it sets the stage for his upcoming EP, ‘Sonic Shivers’.

At just shy of 3 minutes long, ‘We Were Living’ has a distinct 80s vibe to it, combined with modern production techniques and classic EDM styles. Reminiscent of artists such as Rick Springfield, the track conveys the feeling of driving in an open top car along a beachside road, the wind your hair and having not a care in the world.

Jay Sprouse was first inspired to make music in 2008, after finding himself unemployed, and despite having no formal musical training. He watched the documentary, ‘Runnin’ Down A Dream’, about Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and threw himself headlong into music, and, after he relocated to a small apartment in Farmville, Virginia, following the 2008 housing crash, he spent up to 16 hours a day devoting himself to mastering guitar and harmonica.

By the end of 2009 Jay had written and recorded 4 tracks with friends, which, while aired on local radio, were never officially released. He moved to Austin, Texas, that year, and is still there with his wife and sons.

Despite his initial successes, Jay stepped away from music until May this year, and relaunched his career,. The effort paid off, and his fanbase grew rapidly, with the initial 200 streams he’d had back in the day growing to nearly 250,000. Unsurprisingly, his passion was reignited, and he’s set to release his new EP, ‘Sonic Shivers’.

‘We Were Living’ is out now and is available to stream and download here. You can find out more about Jay Sprouse and his music online on Instagram, Facebook, Spotify, and Apple Music.
