Adrianna Freeman crafts an authentic and powerful country sound with new single, ‘Halo’.
A Tennessee native, Adrianna Freeman is a third generation country musician, who began singing at the age of 8, at her grandparents’ roadside farmers market. From there, she performed at local honky-tonks and fairs, before moving to Nashville, where she hoped to get a record deal. Freeman instead released her first album independently, to much international acclaim, produced by Teddy Gentry, of multi-platinum selling country group, Alabama.
Adrianna then had a decade-plus long musical hiatus, and has now decided that the time is right to re-emerge and take her place on the world’s stage. With her no-holds barred, melodic mountain soul style, Freeman dares listeners to take her seriously as a country artist, and her upcoming sophomore album, ‘Lessons I’ve Learned’, will compel them to more than just sit a spell as she sings tales inspired by the real experiences of herself and her loved ones.
‘Halo’ has an uptempo beat, with roots rock guitar, and blues piano calling on listeners to get up from their chairs and clap their hands in time to the singing of the mighty choral accompaniment. Inspired by her childhood memories of singing in the church choir, Freeman’s voice and soulful harmonies give a fresh gospel feel to ‘Halo’, yet the raw lyricism capture the shocking deep-seated hurt of a woman suffering at the hands of domestic abuse. As she addresses her abuser, ‘Halo’ allows Freeman to speak up, no longer afraid. ‘Halo’ serves as a testimony to not just the heart-breaking reality of domestic abuse, but also the strength that’s needed to overcome it.
The music video for ‘Halo’ takes viewers to church, sitting them down ready for the Sunday service. Directed by J.B. Lawrence, it was shot at a church that was built partly by Freeman’s father, and Freeman is joined in the pews by members of her real-life family and friends. Freeman’s uncle, a pastor who initially encouraged her to sing as a child, calls her to the front of the congregation, giving her the motivation to release her pent-up pain. Freeman sings her truth, supported vocally by a choir, while flashbacks reveal the abuse she suffered at the hands of her partner. It’s a profoundly moving story of reclaiming one’s voice in the face of overwhelming adversity, and Freeman takes a fearless step towards creating positive change in the lives of those who understand all too well.
