Released on September 20, ‘Love You, I Don’t’ is the new single from independent artist, Michael Figueroa.
An upbeat electric guitar track, accented by a steady drumbeat and Michael’s easy-going vocals, ‘Love You, I Don’t’ is an expression of the confusion and upset after a relationship breakdown, where you know you need to let go, and you really have, but there’s a part of you that is holding out for something more. It’s bittersweet; the protagonist knows that they’re better off moving on, but not yet – please, let the feeling of being loved, and important to someone, last a little bit longer.
Primarily drawing inspiration from artists and sounds from the early 2010s, such as Mac DeMarco, Bahamas, and Toro y Moi, he also harks back to the sounds of the late seventies, with their richly textured tones woven deftly into his sonic sculptures.
‘Love You, I Don’t’, serves as an introduction to Figueroa, who has been recording his own compositions since he was fifteen years old, and plans on releasing an EP shortly, which he says, explores the depths of human experiences. Short and sweet (the entire track comes in at just over 2 and a half minutes long), ‘Love You, I Don’t’ is a wholly relatable song that will catch hold of the listener’s imagination, with the refrain and rhythms echoing long after the song’s finished.
