Davie Simmons, is a seasoned musician and prolific songwriter, who found a lifelong passion for music in 1966, when he first picked up a pair of drumsticks and started playing drums. This was followed with playing in a band, The Intervals, during his high school years. He’s now paired up with two former members of that band, Andy Camp and Esa Lehti for the song, ‘Angel Music Lover’.
Music has always remained a constant companion throughout Davie’s life, even though he’s taken a different path – getting married, raising a family, and even working as a Star Wars programmer in the 1980s. Nonetheless his love for it has never wavered, and since 1992 he’s put aside time every single day to write, resulting in a huge, and inter-connected catalogue of songs. Decades of experience, emotion, and storytelling go into every composition, and Davie continues to push the boundaries of his creativity, connecting with listeners through music that resonates with authenticity and passion.
‘Angel Music Lover’ captures the true spirit of the era, and is a deeply personal one for Davie. He wrote it in honour of his wife, Angel Firestar Simmons, to commemorate their 20th wedding anniversary, which they celebrated on June 21. Pulling together themes of enduring love, and the passage of time, Davie draws his inspiration from Wilde’s ‘The Picture Of Dorian Gray’, and the classic folk tale, ‘Beauty And The Beast’. Lyrics explore the deep longing to preserve the beauty and affection brought about love, maintaining its power through the ages. and captures the vibe of love’s lasting impact on life.
The music video for ‘Angel Music Lover’ is as stunning as the song, and features a performance by Sasha De Sola, Principal Dancer with the San Francisco Ballet. Set against a variety of incredible locations, including the Green Room and Herbst Theater in the San Francisco War Memorial Building, the Monarch Golf Course in San Leandro, and David’s own 2014 Mercedes Benz Winnebago Navion. The clip was directed and filmed by Fernando Cowan of the Cowan Agency, and video captures the timeless themes of love and devotion found throughout the song. By making use of flashbacks and visual storytelling, the video highlights the emotional journey of love as it unfolds over time.
