An Old Friend Release New Alt Rock Track And Video, ‘Native Gardens’

Long Island’s An Old Friend are an experimental indie rock band, comprising high school friends Cody Kohler on lead vocals and guitar, Eddy Barrera on guitar and vocals, Cory Brown on bass, and last but not least, Frank Facompre on drums. Their close knit relationship is evident in their musical experimentation, which has seen them moodily mixing emo and punk themes with psychedelic elements, dramatic vocals, and ethereal lyrics.

The emotional intensity in all their music is no less evident in their latest single, ‘Native Gardens’, which takes a deep dive into the finer aspects of musical experimentation. With Kohler’s lyrics strongly self-reflective, focusing on dreams that have come and gone, and the desire to restore peace within himself, he is accompanied by powerful riffs, pounding drums, and a bass line that takes a journey all of its own but still manages to bring the whole track together.

You could be forgiven for totally losing yourself in the song, but you’d be missing a trick by not also watching the accompanying music video, which in itself is a thing of beauty. Opening with flashes of fire and alarm clocks, we follow a person as they travel through forests, cities, mountains, and more, searching for their identity which has been lost to the ravages of time. Among the gorgeous natural elements, there are flashing clips of symbolic motifs, such as masks, mirrors, and the previously mentioned clocks, all representing those false identities we take on in life. Let An Old Friend guide you on your journey to find your truth.
