Last week, on July 21st, American pop artist ellakate released an accompanying music video for her most recent single, titled ‘Dry’, which released the week before last, on July 14th. ‘Dry’, along with another single ellakate released last month titled ‘I’m Yours’, are the first singles off her debut EP, which releases later this fall in August. The song details the pain and exhaustion she has experienced in the past, describing it as a ‘vicious cycle of exhaustion’.
Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, Ella Greenbaum, known in the industry as ellakate, gained a passion for music from watching her parents perform at a young age, and took inspiration from pop artists such as Lana Del Rey and Tove Lo. She released her first single, ‘High Maintenance’, on major DSPs in 2022, and has gone on to release many more songs since then, drawing comparisons to artists like Billie Eilish and a younger Amy Winehouse. Now, ellakate seeks to project her voice to the world with her debut EP, with ‘Dry’ being a small snippet of what we can expect on the album.
The song is a somber mix that, as previously mentioned, detail the feeling of being exhausted – “burning out” – and the pain it brings along with it, accompanied by a great backing track that fits the topic of the song like a glove. The music video is equally high quality compared to the song – produced with good cinematography and edited very well, despite the thin budget compared to larger artists’ videos. Overall, the video and song go hand in hand, creating an experience you don’t want to miss out on.
