A supernova is defined as “a powerful and luminous stellar explosion”, and ‘Supernova’, by Bailey Flores, is certainly bursting with energy and light. Accompanied by a very cute and incredibly fun music video, ‘Supernova’ will instantly lift your mood, and turn your frown upside down, as Bailey encourages women to come together in strength and unity.
Bailey Flores, is from New Orleans, but ‘Supernova’ is based anywhere but there. There’s a distinct Japanese feel to the track, and that’s no accident; the pop-rock track features candy-floss sweet vocals, and a fast-paced, chip-tune style instrumental, reminiscent of the soundtracks of Nintendo games, and Anime cartoons. Bailey, speaking about the song, said that at the time of writing, her focus was on her voice acting, and she was inspired to release ‘Supernova’.
“I’d recently gotten into voice acting (I really want to voice anime characters) so I was inspired to sing this song in character instead of in my natural singing voice. I wrote the words and tracked my vocals for this about a year ago. The words have taken on a deeper meaning for me following the overturning of Roe vs Wade. The current situation we are in makes me want to put this song out right now to share a message of positivity and the importance of female allyship and empowerment, and how we can overcome anything together. There’s strength in numbers.”
The music video for ‘Supernova’ sees a cartoon Bailey (with pink hair) flying about the world with a friend, superimposed over real life footage. The pair visit animals at the zoo, take the train, and above all, share their love – “dancing in the moonlight, reaching for the stars”. It’s an encouraging track, showing that if we stick together, we don’t have to be scared of what lies beyond, we don’t have to fear anymore, because we’ll shine like a supernova.
