Artist Başak Gurcan Releases Latest Single, ‘Watch It!’

‘Watch It!’, the new single from Turkish artist Başak Gurcan is incredibly catchy, and is sure to be on many a playlist over the summer. Bright and soulful vocals set against a simple instrumental make for a track that is at once memorable and an ear-pleaser.

Sparse lyrics are perfectly positioned to give space for features such as the stepping bass notes, and popping synths, while the repeated refrain of “watch it” in the backing vocals adds a further compelling element to the track.

‘Watch It!’ is wholly relatable, the lyrics telling the story of how we all want to be trusted, yet we find it difficult to trust anyone else. Individuals are shown as putting their love to one side in their every day pursuits, and that this is actually harmful. Başak wants to remind us to trust one another, and allow ourselves to show (and receive) love.

A graduate of Hacettepe University State Conservatory Jazz Department, Başak has trained as a Jazz vocalist, and has had the opportunity to work with the likes of Emre KARTARİ, saxophonist George “Skip” Gailes, trumpeter Rex Richardson, pianist Bob Hallahan, guitarist Adam Larrabee, bassist Mike Richmond, percussionist Tim Collins Howard Curtis and Doug Richards, former president of the VCU Jazz Studies Institute. She has also worked with Randy Esen as a jazz vocalist at the Hacettepe Jazz Department.

Additionally, Başak sang for the soundtrack of the documentary, ‘Mirror and Bar’, as well as singing the pieces of modern dance performances choreographed by Berk Sarıbay.
