Ginny Luke – ‘Seductive Cinderella’

Ginny Luke wields her violin bow just as any combatant would wield their weapon. A singer, songwriter, and violinist, she has established a reputation as a multi-talented creative in the music industry, starting by touring with Meat Loaf at the age of only 19, and playing all over the world with legends such as Britney Spears, Black Eyed Peas, and The Foo Fighters. In short, she’s seen and done it all. Now she’s changing gear and performing as a solo artist, allowing her charisma and powerhouse vocals to light the stage on fire. Her new single, ‘Seductive Cinderella’, sees Ginny Luke go all out with powerful imagery, presenting a character of female power and autonomy, using the metaphor of a witch to show female empowerment.

In the video for ‘Seductive Cinderella’, Ginny Luke’s character plays on themes from the original Brother’s Grimm tale of Cinderella, “Aschenputtel”, as well as the Tim Burton film, ‘Dark Shadows’. The clip’s witchy aesthetic, ritualistic iconography, and rock and roll aesthetics are front and centre, representing a challenge to classical music ideals as well as patriarchal narratives: Ginny presents a statement of her sexuality and “cries out at midnight with a rebel yell”.

There is a power and presence in her voice which echoes to the deepest parts of your soul, as she belts out lyrics of a night of lust, intoxication and revelry. We see Ginny appearing, by candlelight, as she conjures up a wicked spell of romance and seduction. Cascading instrumentals spiral into an enchanting chorus with shots of the artist shredding on her violin in an electrifying performance. ‘Seductive Cinderella’ melds hard rock’s blood-pumping energy with the class and elegance of classical string instruments.
