‘Diva Songbook – Through The Storm’, is the new album from Michelle John, who rose to fame in 2017 when she was a finalist on The Voice UK.
The eleven track album is the perfect showcase for Michelle John’s powerhouse vocals, as she covers such classics as ‘Reach Out And Touch’ (Diana Ross), ‘I’m Every Woman’ (Chaka Khan), and Bette Midler’s ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’.
Michelle doesn’t restrict herself to songs by female artists; she equally applies herself to tracks like Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Going On’, and the Louis Armstrong masterpiece, ‘What A Wonderful World’.
The album is a collection of songs that mean a lot to Michelle, as a survivor of domestic abuse she knows the power of music to uplift, and in speaking of the release she said,
“‘Diva Songbook – Through the Storm’Â is a collection of songs to lift your spirit and give you the strength to face the challenges ahead. I know first hand how the power of music can give strength in adversity especially during the worst of times.”
Michelle John takes us on an emotional journey as she covers power ballads and soul standards; every song is an elegant vocal performance, worthy of Aretha Franklin, or Mariah Carey.
Reaching the finals of The Voice UK in 2017, Michelle John has had a sterling career providing backing vocals for some of the biggest musical artists in the world, including Eric Clapton, Annie Lennox, George Michael, and Mariah Carey. Her debut single, ‘Priceless’, released in 2019, was met with critical acclaim. Michelle has performed all over the world, including in the White House, for Barack Obama, and for Queen Elizabeth II.
The recording of ‘Diva Songbook – Through The Storm’ was made possible through the support of Michelle’s fans, who funded the project with a Go Fund Me campaign. The result is testimony to the quality and strength of her vocals, and the effect the artist has on those around her.
