Sunday’s Grammy Awards, held at Los Angeles’ world-famous Staples Center, saw Demi Lovato in her first major performance since her highly publicised overdose in 2018.
Wearing a beautiful white flowing white gown, designed by Christian Siriano, Lovato looked angelic as she sang her powerful new ballad, ‘Anyone’.
Demi was overcome with emotion, and had to restart the song, which was accompanied by piano. ‘Anyone’ was written a mere two days before Lovato was rushed to hospital after an accidental overdose, and the ballad was made all the more emotional by her strong voice, and in particular the high notes. The emotion was made all the more evident when Demi started crying, tears rolling down her cheeks.
The lines, “Lord, is there anyone? / I need someone / Anyone / Please, show me anyone” signify that Demi was trying to reach out to people and felt like no one would listen to her. The performance was so raw with emotion, and caused Sam Smith to take to his Instagram saying, “I am in tears. That is singing. That is heart and that is the truth.” Fans were quick to say that they were overcome by emotion and that they were proud of Demi’s song and performance.
Demi’s performance was followed by a standing ovation, marking an amazing comeback.
