Known by fans and critics as “The Texas Tornado”, “The Malice From Dallas”, “The Young Eric Clapton” and “The Last Great Bluesbreaker Guitarist”, you kinda expect from the get go that Rocky Athas is going to have an arsenal of incredible guitar riffs and hooks up his sleeve. And with his new single, ‘Dictator‘, Athas doesn’t disappoint.
He’s connected too! He recorded his first solo album at Willie Nelson’s studio, which was produced by the multi-Grammy winner, Jim Gaines. Rocky has also worked with Buddy Miles, SRVs Double Trouble, Glenn Hughes, Joe Walsh, and John Mayall. It’s clear that he’s got a blues rock pedigree to be proud of. You might not know his name, but that’s about to change, with the wonderfully crafted video for his new song, ‘Dictator’.
The clip for ‘Dictator’ shows Athas jamming with his band in the studio, laying down hot licks and tracking each part of the song, recording it as they go. We see the notes being put through a classic mixing board – proof of the talent of the artists – no editing, correction, or synthesising required.
