Sir Rod Stewart kicks off his new partnership with Republic Records, by joining forces with DNCE for a re-imagined version of one of the most iconic dance tracks of all time, Stewart’s ‘Da Ya Think I’m Sexy’. ‘Sexy’ is out tomorrow, August 25, ready to take on a new generation of music lovers.
Sir Rod and DNCE will celebrate the release of their single by peforming it for the first time ever, at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, held at The Forum, Inglewood, California, on Sunday August 27.
‘Da Ya Think I’m Sexy’ was originally released in 1978 on Stewart’s ninth album, ‘Blondes Have More Fun’, and is easily his best known song, hitting the number 1 spot in six countries, including the US, where it stayed at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks in February 1979. Rolling Stone has named it among their ‘500 Greatest Songs Of All Time’.
Sir Rod Stewart is internationally renowned as a legendary entertainer, and is one of the best selling artists of all time, with over 200 million sales to his name, and achieving six consecutive number 1 albums and six number 1 singles in the UK. He also cracked the top spot in the US on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. DNCE, comprising front man Joe Jonas, bass/keys Cole Whittle, guitarist JinJoo, and Jack Lawless on drums, was formed in the summer of 2015 when the band introduced themselves with the worldwide smash, ‘Cake By The Ocean’, which has now been 3x platinum certified. ‘Cake’ is from the band’s 4-track debut EP, ‘SWAAY’, which was released on Republic Records, and entered the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. The track has so far sold over 7 million singles worldwide, including 450 million Spotify streams. The video has had over 281 views on VEVO – the combination cementing them as one of 2016s breakout acts. DNCE won ‘Best Push Artist’ at last year’s MTV EMAs and ‘Best New Artist’ at the 2o16 MTV VMAs. DNCE were also nominated for two American Music Awards for ‘Favorite Duo Or Group Pop/Rock’ as well as ‘New Artist Of The Year Unleased By T-Mobile’. Their eponymous album was released in November 2016.
