ChevyGurl – ‘Skinny Jeans’ ft. Sada James

ChevyGurl, real name Vanisha Davis, has been writing since she was in primary school, and takes her name from her love of classic cars – particularly the 1967 Chevy Impala.

Hailing from Tampa, Florida, the rapper is the daughter of a long time music producer and DJ, so ChevyGurl practically grew up in the studio. Her music has been compared to hip hop and R&B, but in reality she has a style all her own. Taking this one step further, her debut album, out soon, will even be called ‘No Genre’, because it can’t be restricted to just one genre.

ChevyGurl’s first official release, ‘Skinny Jeans’, features Cincinnati-based artist, Sada James, and has found radio play on 95.7 The Beat, in Tampa, as well as other stations around the South East USA. Written by ChevyGurl and Sada James, ‘Skinny Jeans’ was produced by Demorio Hall.

The video for ‘Skinny Jeans’ was produced and directed by Brent Mendoza, and filmed in Sarasota and Bradenton, Florida. It’s about a girl who has everything in life, and we follow her to the mall, where she picks out “the cutest pair of jeans”. She drives two different convertibles (a red Chevy – of course – and a black Ford Mustang), and runs into some cute guys along the way. It’s a feel good song with a great sound and the video features muted colours that make us think of those long hazy days of summer.

Check out ChevyGurl’s website for information about her upcoming performances. ‘Skinny Girl’ can be downloaded from iTunes and CD Baby, and streamed on Spotify.
