JE T’ADORE – Savages Release Haunting Homage To US Poet

Savages are back with another stupendous single, just days before their eagerly-awaited second album hits the shops on January 22.

Inspired by American poet-activist Minnie Bruce Pratt, Adore is a marked change of gear from previous release  The Answer (reviewed here).

A world away from their usual frenetic power punk, it’s a brooding,  elegiac, yet ultimately life-affirming work.

Featuring arguably frontwoman Jehnny Beth‘s most affecting vocal performance to date, Adore sees the band showing the confidence to develop their sound.

Ayşe Hassan (bass), Fay Milton (drums) and Gemma Thompson (guitar), provide a skeletal backing, accenting the mood where necessary, but pulling back to let the track breathe and allow Jehnny Beth’s voice to take centre stage.

Video director Anders Malmberg keeps it simple – complementing and reinforcing the thrust of the music with striking images of the band intercut with Jehnny Beth’s in-your-face straight to camera vocal.

A fitting showcase for Savages growing versatility and a mouth-watering curtain-raiser for the full LP Adore Life.

Savages embark on five-date UK tour in support of the album beginning with a show at Bexhill’s De La Warr Pavilion on February 18 and finishing at the Irish Centre, Leeds on February 23.

The band then head off for dates in Europe and the US, before returning to these shores for a climactic show at London’s Roundhouse on March 17. Full details available from http://savagesband.com/#tour.
