It’s been a big few days for John and Edward with the Dublin Duo wowing the crowd in Blackpool this weekend, where they headlined that city’s Pride Festival. After singing eight songs to a packed Empress Ballroom, the twins had fans and non-fans alike stunned at their performance. The venue was hot both on and off stage – Jedward must have come close to melting as they wore suits in front of stage lights – on the floor it was hot enough.
Singing something for everyone, Jedward covered both old and new. Their setlist featured both of their Eurovision songs, “Lipstick” and “Waterline”, their three latest songs, “Free Spirit”, “Ferocious” and “Make Your Own Luck”, and a selection from their back catalogue, including “Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)”, which Edward prefixed with, “some of you might only know us from a song we sang nearly six years ago now”. As always they gave a polished and professional performance.
Jedward announced from the stage that they have written and recorded the theme song for Sharknado 3, the latest instalment in the made-for-tv movie franchise for the SyFy Network. The film stars Tara Reid and Ian Ziering, with the general theme being, sharks caught up in a tornado wreaking havoc on mainland US. Given the first two have become cult classics, it’s to be imagined that the third film should also join them. John and Edward feature in the film as “tourists”, with Edward saying, “we do a lot of screaming”. The song, “Oh Hell No” is available to pre-order, with its world-wide release date July 22 to coincide with the first US screening of the film.
As if that wasn’t enough, John and Edward, who had spent time on Saturday morning meeting fans at Manchester Airport upon their arrival, are about to embark this week on a European tour – with a difference.
In a move that could be considered madness or sheer genius (we think the latter) the pair will conduct what has been described as a “Jedhug Tour” – rather than performing for their adoring European fans in venues across the Continent, they have announced dates and times for fans to meet them at various airports where they will administer hugs and take selfies.
The twins have asked that no presents be given on this whirlwind tour: in effect, they are the gift, with all that’s expected of the fans is to show up. It’s also very practical – with a great number of countries on their list to visit over the next fortnight or so, they want to have all four of their collective hands left free for hugs and photo taking.
Countries (so far) on the list of places in the tour include Denmark, Poland, Norway, Scotland, England, Italy, Hungary, Belgium, Germany, and Finland.
