Christmas is fast approaching and some would argue (me) that the perfect gift to find under the tree this year would be Jedward. The flaxen haired Irish singing duo might suggest their place is higher up the tree with their latest TikTok video, which sees the pair try their hand at the popular ring light trend.
Almost exactly a year ago we featured Jedward’s John Grimes’ cover of the Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber single, ‘Monster’. Now we bring you another take on the song, by The Veer Union. Unlike John’s rendition, which saw him sing accompanied only by his acoustic guitar, and indeed, the original song, which was a dance pop number – in the hands of The Veer Union, and featuring Late Night Savior & Stealing Eden, the song is shaken from its pop foundations and given a more punk, almost heavy metal treatment.
If you’ve been living under a rock then you’ll not have realised that Jedward have in recent months become not just the darlings of Twitter, but they’ve taken over TikTok as well. On two accounts – @planetjedward and @jepictiktok, they’ve been uploading videos about their day to day lives, but in true Jedward fashion, there’s fun and humour involved.
We all know the song as soon as we hear the title, or indeed, as soon as we hear those first lines, “Wise men say / Only fools rush in”. In our minds we can also instantly hear the resonating vocals of The King himself, Elvis Presley, who died this day, 44 years ago. It’s a hard act to follow, but we think John Grimes has got it in the bag with his acoustic guitar cover of ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’.
Back in March John and Edward Grimes, aka Jedward, shaved off their trademark, and quite frankly iconic, quiffs, to raise money for a cause that’s very close to their hearts, Irish Cancer Society. The event, in honour of their late mother Susanna, raised more than 3 million Euros.
Since that time, fans and followers have got used to their shorter hair, but even so in that time, it’s grown considerably, leading the Dublin musicians to yesterday introduce a new style to fans – the JedHawk.
