Australian Legends The Church Celebrate 30th Anniversary Of Classic ‘Starfish’ Album With UK Performances

It’s hard to believe but the undisputed classic album, ‘Starfish’, from legendary Australian band The Church, commemorates its 30th anniversary this year. To celebrate the occasion, The Church will be touring the UK this June, including a weekend of shows at London’s Bush Hall, as well as appearances at Manchester’s Club Academy, and La Belle Angele, in Edinburgh.

doubleVee Release Single ‘Ladder for the People’ Ahead Of EP ‘Songs for Birds and Bats’

doubleVee are Allan and Barb Vest (hence the duo’s name), who are partners in life as well as in music. They launched in 2012 (and married in 2015) and are set to release their new EP, ‘Songs for Birds and Bats’ this Friday, April 12. ‘Ladder for the People’ is from that EP, and has a throwback sort of sound something akin to that of DEVO, together with a fun music video.

Heron – ‘Splashdown’

On first listening to ‘Splashdown’ by Heron, I’m reminded of Joe Satriani’s track, ‘Always With Me, Always With You’, from his breakthrough 1987 album, ‘Surfing With The Alien’. There’s also elements that suggest Mark Knopfler’s ‘Going Home’, from the film ‘Local Hero’. There’s maybe even a hint of Tommy Emmanuel there. None of this is to suggest Heron’s piece is derivative, but rather, it’s an indication of the incredible quality of the track.

West End Stars Head To Blackpool For LIVEWIRE Festival

Livewire Festival has announced that the Sunday evening slot will be a musical extravaganza, titled ‘From Movies To Musicals’ bringing some of the UK’s most beloved musical stars to the famous seaside resort for the August bank holiday in 2019. Ben Forster, John Owen-Jones, Kerry Ellis, Ruthie Henshall, and more yet to be announced will be accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.
