Released on the 24th of March, ‘Say My Name’ is the new single from High Desert based duo, LANDROID. The track comes ahead of their album, ‘Constellation’, set for release on the 12th of June, via Mojave Beach Records.
Landers, California, is located in the midst of the Mojave Desert, and, as a result of its close proximity to the Integratron, and Giant Rock, and the fact that a lot of their 2632 residents are involved in the UFO culture of the area, the locals are known as Landroids. It’s also a neat name for a band.
Comprising Cooper Gillespie on vocals and bass, and Greg Gordon on drums and sequences – both professional musicians and veteran performers who have been touring the world for decades – LANDROID is in tribute to the town they’ve made their home. They’re joined on ‘Constellation’ by Joshua Tree songwriter, Nigel Roman.
‘Say My Name’ is ethereal and mystical, opening with percussion, soon followed by an enticing bass rhythm that will quickly draw you in. By the time Gillespie’s vocals start, you’re fully hooked, and if you’re anything like me, that’s just fine, because you had no intention of leaving anyway.
There’s a nostalgic, psychedelic element to their sound; it swirls all around like a desert wind, very fitting for the band’s location, and despite the fact that the members of LANDROID spent years immersed in the punk and rock scene of Los Angeles. With ‘Say My Name’ it’s as if they’re holding up a musical mirror on the landscape all around them, calling listeners to lose themselves in it.
