Co-written in late 2024, alongside Sven Tydeman, ‘A Little Light’ sees Simon Orton draw inspiration from the true story of supporting a partner through the trauma of an unresolved relationship. The country music track takes a deep dive into the intricacies of love, patience, and finally, letting go. While clearly experiencing strong emotions himself, the narrator manages to navigate their way through the frustration and offer love and understanding to his partner.
Orton’s vocals are a great match for the lyrical themes, slightly gruff while effectively conveying the hurt feelings experienced by the narrator, and will resonate with those who have extended compassion in the face of loss The music’s warm country tones, with gentle rhythms and hooky melodies ensure the track is catchy and memorable, while allowing the emotional narrative to be front and centre.
Debuting back in May 2025 with his single, ‘The Next Me’, which he followed up that October with his re-imagining of the Sinatra classic, ‘That’s Life’, Simon Orton has received high praise for his music and songwriting. His gravelly, somewhat gruff vocals are reminiscent of John Williamson, while his songwriting style will draw comparison to Paul Kelly – in other words, Orton’s sound is distinctly Australian and with a warmth to the their tone which is incredibly accessible.
‘A Little Light’ is out now and can be streamed and downloaded here.Ā
