The Creaking Floorboards Bring Resonance With Their Introspective New Album, ‘Falling Out Of Your World’

Released on the 15th of November, ‘Falling Out Of Your World’ is the new album from The Creaking Floorboards, and takes a deep look at the impact of memory, and loss.

Comprising 8 tracks, ‘Falling Out Of Your World’ is a blues rock album, with The Creaking Floorboards the brainchild of UK based artist, Jeff Kelly. Opening strongly with ‘Blank’, an anthemic track reflecting on loss and heartbreak, we are introduced immediately to Jeff’s immense vocal and instrumental talents.

Following on, ‘The Influencer’ is a deeply bluesy, soulful track, featuring a female vocalist whose gravelly tones are perfectly suited for the music and the lyrics, and feels like a counter-point to ‘Blank’.

Track 3, ‘All She Knows’, is Jeff’s haunting tribute to his mother, featuring the same vocalist as on ‘The Influencer’. Once more we are caught up by the angst and drama of this vocalist, and we feel the pain of the the lyricist as he captures his writes of the life his mother led, feeling helpless and trapped.

‘Clueless’ is Jeff’s dedication to the late Brittany Murphy, who died in 2009, and who broke through into Hollywood with her role as Tai Frasier in the 1995 film, ‘Clueless’. The song is a cautionary tale about being wary of fame; while it’s too late for Murphy, it’s one the rest of us can take on board. Jeff Kelly takes the opportunity to showcase his formidable guitar skills on this track, with multiple solos.

‘Collateral Damage’ is an intriguing follow up to ‘Clueless’, with its commentary on the “disposability” of people, in this case, focusing on the many young lives lost in wars around the world.

‘River Don’t Care’ continues with the blues vibes, opening with a riff that Eric Clapton would be proud of. Kelly sings of the worries and complexities of life, but when it comes down to it, we are all the same – the river don’t care, it’ll wash away the rich and the poor just the same.

Penultimate track, ‘Keen Eye’, sees Kelly once more demonstrate his artistic prowess, as he reflects on the things of the past, while final track, ‘The Gift’, shows just how much he is one; it’s a reflection on Jeff’s own journey through dyslexia, and finding his own voice – “Feeling like a lemon, been through life’s twists and turns” – despite all the turmoil. It’s a deeply moving recounting of his struggle, and, like the rest of the album, serves as a relatable record for those of us who have struggled to keep up with the rest of the world.
