W.C. Beck Is Just Waiting On ‘A Letter From A Friend’

Out now, ‘A Letter From A Friend’ is the new single from W.C. Beck. Originally from Kansas, Beck has had an interesting life, travelling around the world, calling home – for even a short time – the likes of Portland, Oregon, and Paris, France. Right now he’s set up a life for himself in Brooklyn, but who knows when this multi-instrumentalist will next feel the call to go on the road.

That’s what ‘A Letter From A Friend’ is all about. He’s wanting to settle down, but then, the lure of discovery, the open road, the unexplored places, calls to him. A letter received from a friend has him thinking back to his travels, the stunning landscapes of the west coast of the US, the lights and cosmopolitan hubbub of Paris. He’s harking back to all the people he’s been too – the opportunity to present himself as who he wants to be, and not have to put roots down, or let too many people in deep to see the real him.

Now in New York though, he’s found someone that he might want to let into his heart, but the familiar yearning to pack up is tugging at him. He’s wanting to disguise it as wanderlust, but really, he knows it’s fear. Fear of letting go, fear of being seen. He’s nearly there, he’s willing to perhaps let this person hold onto the rainbow with him. Perhaps they can see the world together.

Country-flavoured rock, guitar-led with a brushed drum percussive beat pulling it together, ‘A Letter From A Friend’ is catchy and enchanting, with Beck’s voice pleasantly drawly, enough to make the listener want to take that journey with him, if asked. It’s upbeat and light, but there’s enough anguish in his voice to know it’s not all happiness in there.
