Released on July 26, ‘All’s Fair’ is the latest single from Australian singer-songwriter, Sophia Scott. The track, which started life as a piano ballad, before evolving, during the demo stage, into something far more upbeat and bold, sees the Brisbane singer really come into her own as an independent artist.
‘All’s Fair’ is available to stream and download here.
Going from a melancholy riff to a far more brazen piece, the track’s production saw it blended with a warm, modern indie sound, as well as elements of Sophia’s favourite 80s pop rock elements, such as synths.
Giving a vibe that could easily be believed to be a rediscovered track from Tiffany, or Debbie Gibson, or closer to home, the Blakeney Twins, ‘All’s Fair’ goes full 80s with its sound and lyrics, such as this line from the chorus, “I thought we were working it out but you made your own bed when you both lay down”. Even the cover art is 80s inspired, with Sophia dressed in tights and a leotard that wouldn’t be out of place on Jazzercise.
‘All’s Fair’ was produced by Elliot Cox, and James See, at Airlock Studios, in Camp Mountain, Queensland. The studio is a bit of Aussie history itself, being owned by former Powderfinger member, Ian Haug.
‘All’s Fair’ covers the angst of the reality of life beyond a relationship; moving on but knowing you don’t have to also see your ex moving on as well. It’s complex, but it’s real.
Brisbane’s Sophia Scott takes her inspiration from other female songwriters, such as the iconic Blondie, Alanis Morissette, and Joni Mitchell. She started her writing journey at the age of 8, but released her debut single when she was 19. Sophia signed to Interstellar Music Agency in 2023, and has since sold out every show she’s headlined, as well as an appearance at SXSW this year. Sophia will be touring NSW shortly, ahead of the release of her debut six-track EP.
‘All’s Fair’ is out now and can be streamed and downloaded here. You can find out more about Sophia Scott and her music online on Instagram, Facebook, Spotify, and Apple Music.
