Released on July 26, ‘What Is It You Know’ is the new EP from Essex singer-songwriter, Billy Brazier.
‘What Is It You Know’ is available to stream and download here.
The 8 track EP draws inspiration from other UK artists such as Oasis, The Beatles, Billy Idol, and David Bowie (among others) with Brazier making good use of the “cheeky chappy” reputation of men from Essex, singing in his own accent, and bringing an upbeat feeling to even the most serious of subjects.
EP opener, ‘Junk Food’ took its inspiration from a documentary about Oasis (perhaps ‘Supersonic’?), and reflects the laddish attitude of the Manchester band. This is followed on by ‘Just Because Why Not’, which is an anthem about taking spontaneous trips down to London.
Track 3, ‘Kill The Internet’, is a more serious track, exploring modern day society’s obsession with social media – and concluding that we really should just break free from it. Likewise, ‘Wallflower’ is sung in defence of people who want to do their own thing, who enjoy their own company above that of others.
Brazier’s insightful lyrics are deeply nuanced, while examining subject matter that is hugely relevant to all of us today. Set against upbeat alt-rock instrumentals, the EP is catchy and memorable, bringing forth a high powered retro vibe reminiscent of The Jam, and The Squeeze.
Suggested by the casual remark of a friend, the EP’s title, ‘What Is It You Know’ takes in the unpredictability of life, and delivers an honest look at the experience of just being human, in raw and relatable terms.
30 this year, Billy Brazier was born in Romford, Essex, and found solace in music as a way to cope with growing up in a financially challenged environment. Initially he was dabbling in hip hop, before allowing his passion for rock music to take over. He started songwriting at the age of 18, and credits his candid writing style as being inspired by John Lennon.
