Last week, on the 4th of August, Australian superstar Delta Goodrem released her latest single, titled ‘Back To Your Heart’, on major streaming platforms. The song is her first release in 2 years, following up her 2021 album, ‘Bridge over Troubled Dreams’. She also announced a headline tour across the UK to commemorate the 20th anniversary of her debut album, ‘Innocent Eyes’, which starts in Glasgow on August 22nd.
The Sydney-born artist was a child prodigy in the music industry – she started creating her own music at the age of seven, taking up the piano and singing, dancing and acting lessons. She broke out at the age of thirteen, recording a five-song EP which got her signed to Empire Records shortly after on an artist development deal. Her supposed debut album, titled ‘Delta’, recorded during the turn of the millennium, was blocked from commercial release by Goodrem’s parents, and she had some trouble with releasing her actual debut album, ‘Innocent Eyes’, until March 2003. Despite a struggle with lymphoma shortly after, Goodrem persisted through the struggle, becoming one of Australia’s most successful artists through her 20-plus year history in the industry – a success she reflects on with ‘Back To Your Heart’.
The song is a return to the traditions that she employed earlier in her career, with an anthemic, emotional feel to it. Echoing the style of sound that Goodrem used to make her chart-topping hits, the song is an instant classic that leaves you waiting for more music from the legendary songstress – music that will be coming soon, after she completes work on a yet-to-be-titled upcoming album.
