Decrease In Value Express Their True Love And Passion For Music With Latest EP, ‘Love Or Desire’

‘Love Or Desire’ is the new EP from Decrease In Value. A two year project which started recording at Studio Truth, in Melbourne, Australia, back in February 2021, Decrease In Value is the performing name of talented duo, Chanel and Luna, who take their inspiration from the likes of Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Dua Lipa, and BLACKPINK.

The five track EP, opening with the title track, examines the the concept of a love that gradually turns into obsession – to the point where their passion becomes deadly.

‘Love Or Desire’ starts out innocently enough, but with lyrics such as “tell me I’m the only one for you”, the artists are revealing what they’re really like. This is further explored in ‘Pull Away’, with lines like, “every single time you pull away, I want you even more” and “please please tell me why, why don’t you like me back, I’m not going to give up on you until I’ve made you mine”. The upbeat instrumental of the track add to the idea that the singer isn’t that serious; but the lyrics are still somewhat sinister.

“I need you to understand, don’t want you to fear me” is the opening line of track 3, ‘First Love’, and the listener gets the sense that the singer is now obsessed and has the potential to be a bit dangerous. Again, the music is upbeat, making the lyrics that bit more uneasy.

There’s some great rapping on the track as well – particularly tracks 2 and 3. ‘I’m Just Selfish’, the fourth song on the EP, amps up the danger, with the singer demanding attention from the object of their desire, with lyrics like “tick tock hear the clock sound, be mine or get buried underground”. They’re still compelling, like the sirens calling to Odysseus and his crew. Finally, it all comes to a head in track 5, ‘Ravenous’. The singer has taken it to a dangerous level, breaking into their beloved’s house, threatening them if they don’t give their love to them.

All in all ‘Love Or Desire’ is an entrancing record, with a retro vibe, incredibly catchy melodies, and great songwriting. It’s compelling, it’s twisted, it’s a lot of fun.

‘Love Or Desire’ is out now and can be streamed and downloaded here. You can find out more about Decrease In Value and their music online on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
