It Will Definitely Take Place: Two Decade Wait For Gladiator 2 Almost Over!

Ridley Scott might be in his eighties, however the legendary filmmaker certainly has not shown any signs to suggest that he is about to slow down any time soon and enjoy a well-deserved retirement.

The 83-year-old has been working hard recently on a number of exciting movie projects at the moment, with a film based on Napoleon Bonaparte being worked on currently, whilst he also had “The Last Duel” with Jodie Comer having just been released with “House of Gucci” featuring Lady Gaga, Al Pacino and Adam Driver set to be released later in the year.

However, despite the incredible amount of work that the filmmaker has had recently, it seems that he has already lined up his next project and it is a sequel of a classic movie that fans will not be able to wait for.

Gladiator 2 will definitely take place

According to Scott, he has revealed that “Gladiator 2” will definitely take place and that he will be working on it once he has completed the film based on Napoleon. It had initially been announced in 2018 that he was planning to direct a follow-up to the 2000 blockbuster hit, but he has since confirmed the news.

Indeed, it would have been hard for Scott not to try and explore more with the Gladiator story, especially as the first film managed to generate so much interest. At the time of its release in 2000, it proved to be a critical and commercial hit, as it managed to generate $460 million (£342.8 million) in revenue across the globe, whilst also being able to claim five Oscars across a variety of different categories.

To add to the greater appeal that the movie had around the world, there have been a number of video games and casino titles that have been created by taking inspiration from the theme and becoming a huge success. Indeed, it could be argued that Scott’s 2000 blockbuster paved the way for developers to use this theme as the likes of “Gladiator Jackpot”, “Game of Gladiators” and “Wild Gladiators” all available at the best online casino in the UK.

When can we expect Gladiator 2 to be released?

With Scott already working on his Napoleon film, it would be safe to assume that a follow-up to the original Gladiator film will still be a little while away. However, with the way that the iconic filmmaker continues to churn movies out at his age, it would not be a surprise if we were to see it hit cinemas and theatres in late 2022 or early 2023.

However, it could completely rely on the completion of another and completely unrelated film for it to be made and released as early as possible.

It has been reported that the script for Gladiator 2 is being written by Peter Craig, who is currently working on the delayed “Top Gun: Maverick” that features Tom Cruise. The film, which is produced by Paramount Pictures, has had to be moved from its initially November 19, 2021, date and has been pushed back to Memorial Day weekend next year, May 27, 2022.

This delay has also had a knock-on effect, as there are a host of different movie titles that have also had to be pushed back.

What is the plot of Gladiator 2?

Looking ahead and taking a look at what we could potentially expect to see once “Gladiator 2” has been created and hits the big screen, there is one plot that appears likely to be followed and one that would appear to be rather understandable given what happened in the first film.

According to recent developments, it would seem the plot of the film would centre around Lucius, the son of Lucilla (played by Connie Nielsen in the first film). Lucius is the nephew of Joaquim Phoenix’s Commodus – spoiler alert – the Roman emperor that was killed by Russell Crowe’s Maximus. However, those that watched the film will know that Maximus had died at the end of the first movie, but he appears to have had a major influence on the way that Lucius’ life has turned out since those events.

Indeed, the film has been described as a legitimate follow-up to the original film, therefore it was not surprising to learn that the film will be set at least two decades after the original title was created.
