Runes Releases Latest Single, ‘Open Up Your Heart’

Melbourne, Australia electronic music act, Runes, was born during the Covid-19 pandemic. Their latest single, ‘Open Up Your Heart’, is a fresh blend of French Electro, Synthwave, 80s pop, disco, put together with modern pop sensibilities and production methods.

The song itself, which takes inspiration from the sounds of Danger, Kavinsky, Justice and Rüfüs Du Sol, among others, came about from the documentaries about cults that saw Runes get through lockdown. The song is paired with a super-trippy, sci-fi themed video, and the many textured rhythms and layers of the instrumentals are the perfect accompaniment for Runes’ laid back vocals. Runes’ songs, including this one, deal with themes of love, loss, addiction, fear, and anxiety, all of which are immensely relatable.

‘Open Up Your Heart’ is sung from the point of view of someone seeking assurance and a sense of belonging, and in so doing they find themselves looking for a god. It’s been a worrying time the past year or so, with many people trying to find their place in the world, to discover where they actually fit in, and because of this ‘Open Up Your Heart’ will resonate strongly with many.
