‘Gimme Gimme’ is the debut single from new R&B/pop duo, Newby & The Kid. The pair wrote the track during lockdown, and although it’s their first release, they’re no strangers to the music industry.
Comprising Chris Newby and Mario Alvarez, Newby & The Kid got their start while playing music in a church in Spanaway, Washington, before finding their way to Sydney, where their love of music manifested in a strong desire to contribute to the sound of the current generation. Their songwriting and production was honed over several years before they finally felt ready to produce and release their own work, and while they try not to be pigeonholed in any one particular style, they feel their sound lays somewhere between pop and R&B, saying,
“There’s such a balance to pushing the envelope on sound development and being able to access that undeniable feel.”
‘Gimme Gimme’ is light and upbeat, the beat driving the track but ultimately led by the breezy vocals. Speaking of the track, they said,
“We wanted to bring something fresh and fun that we can truly say was written in our apartment living room”.
