Famous among many other things for their creamy Irish complexions, you’d think Jedward would know a thing or two about sun safety. And usually they do. Today however, Edward shared photos of one time when he wasn’t entirely careful to slip, slop, and slap.
Posting on Twitter, Edward said, “Please Protect your skin from the sun! Wear Suncream! This is the result of severe sunburn” – accompanied by two photos of him with a badly sunburned neck and face.

Edward, who had an operation on his knee last Tuesday to repair damage to his ACL, which he’d initially injured 10 years ago, acquired the terrible sunburn in June in Los Angeles, when he and brother John were marching in a peaceful protest for Black Lives Matter. The twins spent 5 hours walking in the blazing Hollywood sun, during which time they not only shouted themselves hoarse, but also suffered the sun damage. Speaking on RTE Radio 1 last week to Eoghan McDermott and Doireann Garrihy, Edward said that he peeled for weeks afterward.
“We literally took it over, we were going for five hours marching, from Hollywood and Vine all the way to Beverly Hills, and to have the national army and the police there. It was like it totally took you over, before you knew it you had this really deep voice from chanting, and roaring my head off.”
“We were at the front, as white allies they’d have us marching at the front because [the police were less likely to shoot white people]. A lot of people weren’t from the area, they came from all over, and because we’re based in Hollywood we knew the streets that were more prominent. Sometimes they’d want to go down an off street and we would say no, lets go down this street because it’s a really focal street where a lot of powerful people are living, and would hear the message.”

Ironically the sunburn happened the day before John and Edward shot the video for their most recent single, ‘Taste The Heat’. Let’s hope Edward doesn’t do anything like that to his skin again anytime soon!
