In yet another incredible acoustic guitar cover, John Grimes of Jedward has tackled a Harry Styles’ song, ‘Cherry’. The original, which was co-written by Styles and his frequent collaborator, Tyler Johnson, along with Jeff Bhasker, Kid Tycoon, and Sammy Witte, does not include the song title in the lyrics. In John’s version however, he has added a bridge which amends this:
Oh Cherry baby, why’d you have to go
And leave me here, fragile and alone
Oh Cherry baby, I’m sorry I was wrong
Maybe one day you’ll fall back into my arms
The supplemental verse adds changes the meaning of ’Cherry’ somewhat: the Styles version was slightly more bitter in tone, with Harry and his team writing it following his breakup with French Victoria’s Secret model, Camille Rowe, and her subsequent dating of art collector Theo Niarchos. John’s touch has given the song a more hopeful sound.
