Norwegian pop-star AURORA and Idina Menzel’s song, ‘Into The Unknown’ from Disney’s Frozen 2 has been nominated for an Academy Award for ‘Best Original Song’ at the 2020 Oscars.
The release of the track marked AURORA’s first Hot 100 position. Written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, the track debuted at No.55 on the Billboard Hot 100, according to Nielsen Music. The track also saw AURORA enter the Top 10 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart for the first time last year at No.8.
Remaining firmly in the Top 40 of the UK Singles Chart, ‘Into The Unknown’s’ popularity has resulted in impressive increases across AURORA’s socials as well as her streaming performance. Since its release, AURORA’s monthly Spotify listeners has increased by 232% – now at 8.3 million, 100k new subscribers on YouTube and 53k followers on Instagram.
Tom MacDougall, executive Vice President of music at Disney, first saw AURORA perform during an artist showcase five years ago and thought there was something about this intriguing performer with an impressive range that could be a good fit for Disney.
Tom says,
“At first the character didn’t exist, but AURORA is such an interesting artist. When this character came up — this voice — I pitched AURORA. It was a no-brainer. She had to be our voice!”
AURORA voices the ‘North Wind’ which features prominently throughout the film. Because of the nature of her involvement in the song, she is also credited in the film as The Voice.
In November, AURORA performed to a sold-out London Roundhouse, met with glowing 4-star reviews, and toured Asia for the first time with sold-out shows in Tokyo and Seoul. AURORA’s catalogue has racked up an incredible 1 billion total streams and over 1.2 million YouTube subscribers. Her critically acclaimed album ‘A Different Kind Of Human’ is out now on Decca Records.
